Always play with random mode ON, Even if I choose to listen a song in particularly

Whenever I start a playlist and activate the random mode, I expect it to continue shuffling my songs seamlessly. However, there's an annoying glitch—if I decide to play a specific song from the playlist, the random mode automatically turns off. Once that song finishes, instead of continuing the shuffle, the playlist plays the next song in its original order. I'm then forced to manually reactivate the random mode to resume shuffling. It’s frustrating, especially when I just want to enjoy a mix of songs without constantly adjusting the settings.

Hey there,

We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the ideas section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

That being said, we’d like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The make/model and OS of the device on which you noticed this behavior.
  • The exact Spotify version you’re running.
  • We’d like to know if it's always behaved like that or if this behavior started after a specific event/update.
  • It'd be great if you sent us a short video recording of what's happening, so we can better visualize what you're mentioning. You can attach the video on your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can watch it.

With this info we’ll get a better understatement of the behavior you mentioned.

Keep us in the loop!

Hey,

Im on the latest version of iOS. I noticed that it never happened before I uninstall and reinstall Spotify. Before that, random mode was always enabled.

I send you a video : https://youtube.com/shorts/fS2Xk1vEhx4?feature=shared

Hey @Shbzz,

Thanks for following up and for linking the video!

You mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, however as the issue seems to have appear around that time too, would you mind trying a clean reinstall? This is more thorough than a regular one and will also clear stored cache from the app, as well as ensure that you're running the latest app version.

Shouldn't that do the trick, could you let us know the exact Spotify version you're running (as mentioned earlier by @AlejaR)?

It would also be great to know if you experience this will all playlists or just with this specific one? And are you experiencing issues with Shuffle on other content than playlists, such as albums?

Let us know how you get on!

Hello,

So I tried to reinstall And I already had the last version of Spotify app. It still doesn’t works and it happens with all of my playlists.

Thanks.

Hey there,

Thanks for the reply @Shbzz!

Just to confirm, does this also happen when using Smart Shuffle? And could you double-check if changing the current Smart Shuffle mode in settings makes any difference? Tap your profile picture at the top > Settings and privacy Settings > Playback > Include Smart Shuffle in play modes (this can be toggled on/off depending on your current setting).

Also, looking at the video you included, we can see that you seem to be connected to headphones. Have you noticed if this occurs with another pair of headphones or when listening directly from the device's speakers?

We can suggest giving another account a try to see if it behaves the same way (if possible). For example, you can ask a friend or a family member who uses Spotify Premium to log in to their own account on your device.

Keep us posted.

Hello,

I tried everything you said, still nothing changed.

I was specifically using Spotify instead of YouTube premium because of this future and now it doesn’t work 😔

Hey @Shbzz

Thanks for getting back to us.

We understand that you tried the aforementioned steps, but could you let us know if the same happened when you tried with different headphones and when you were streaming directly on your device?

On another and just to confirm, have you tried with a different account? You can ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your phone and see if they can replicate this behavior. This will help us determine if the issue is account-related.

Lastly, it's worth giving a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens. If you've been using Wi-Fi, you can now try with mobile data to test this.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

I attempted the shuffle feature with and without headphones, on both my PC and iPhone, and using a different account. Despite these changes, the shuffle mode still played the same song when I selected a new one.

Interestingly, this issue didn’t occur before I reinstalled the app.

Hey there @Shbzz,

Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.

We can confirm that our tech team is aware of this behavior. We're further investigating this issue in this thread, so feel free to post there, making sure you share with us the exact Spotify version you're running on your iOS device.

You can also subscribe to that thread. That way, you'll get notified as soon as we post any news on the matter.

We'll be here if anything else comes up.

Hello,

Thank you for your assistance. I’m currently using the latest version of Spotify and iOS 18.5. I’ve noticed that I don’t encounter any issues on Windows 11. Even when I select a song with the shuffle mode on, it doesn’t automatically disable, and random songs from the playlist continue playing.

I hope this information helps you resolve the issue.

Hello,

Still not fixed.
